Ernest "Ernie" Alfred Wagoner, Jr., 62 of Winston-Salem, NC and formerly of Martinsville, VA died Thursday, September 19, 2013 at his home. He was born in Martinsville, VA on July 20, 1951 to Ernest Alfred Wagoner, Sr. of Martinsville, VA and the late Mary Louise Swain Wagoner. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, B.T. and Dovie Wagoner.

Mr. Wagoner was a 1969 graduate of Martinsville High School and attended Danville Community College, Danville, VA. He worked as an engineer for Lee Telephone Company (Central Telephone Company) from 1970-1984 in Martinsville, VA, Charlottesville, VA, Killeen TX and Hickory, NC. In 1984 he moved to Tampa, FL to accept a position as Senior Sales Engineer with Rolm/Siemens/IBM providing engineering support to clients such as U. S. Department of Energy and Pinellas County Government Services.

Mr. Wagoner took early retirement from IBM in 1996. Soon bored with retirement, Mr. Wagoner joined an SAP Consultancy in Tampa as Product Development Manager. He was highly respected by clients not only in the U. S. but in the Netherlands, Germany, Austria and Chile. Relocating to Charlotte, NC in 1999, he became a Senior SAP Sales Engineer at Osprey Systems.

His lifelong interests were traveling, especially European, his beloved dachshunds, boating, water skiing, scuba diving, playing Blackjack in Las Vegas and also loved all things related to Star Trek.

In 2008 he was diagnosed with Frontotemporal Degenerative Dementia.

Surviving are his wife, Debra Gordon Wagoner of the home; sisters, Carol Wagoner Dyer and husband, Bill of Henry, VA, Janet Wagoner English of Martinsville, VA and Pam Wagoner Kidd and significant other, Jerry Kirkham of Winston-Salem, NC; brothers, Doug Wagoner and Jeff Wagoner and wife, Gail all of Martinsville, VA; aunts, Elsie Nowlin of Danville, VA and Janice Wagoner of Stuarts Draft, VA; uncle, Eugene Wagoner; nine nieces and nephews; fifteen great-nieces and great-nephews; one great-great-nephew and his beloved little dachshund, Casey.

The family wants to give special thanks to Dr. Greene, Dr. Le, Dr. Vu and Dr. Wofford and all the nurses and nursing assistants on North Tower, 10th Floor and Ardmore Tower East, 10th Floor at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital, Winston-Salem, NC. Thanks also to the

wonderful folks at Hospice and Palliative Care of Winston-Salem for their compassionate and respectful care during his final days at home.

The funeral service will be held at Norris Funeral Services Martinsville Chapel, Martinsville, VA on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. with Dr. Michael Hatfield officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park, Martinsville, VA. The family will receive friends on Monday evening, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Norris Funeral Services and other times at the home of his father, Ernest Alfred Wagoner, Sr., 1205 Chatham Road, Martinsville, VA.
