Marie Louise (Stampfel) Gilder passed away on Thursday, April 16, 2009. Marie was born to John and Marie Stampfel in Red Lodge, Montana on Aug. 2, 1923. Marie attended school in Red Lodge prior to attending college at Polytech Business School in Billings. Upon completion of her studies, Marie worked for an oil company in Denver, Colorado, prior to returning to Red Lodge where she worked for several local attorneys.
On Feb. 7, 1948, Marie married Richard Gilder. From their union, eight children were born: Mary (Al), Katherine (Don), Patricia (Ronald), Robert (Beverley), Virginia (Henry), Thomas (Michelle), Howard (Jeanette), Evelyn (Steve) and countless grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Marie spent years sharing the musical talents of which she was blessed. In her younger years, she played for innumerable dance bands and glee clubs. Marie was the faithful organist at St. Agnes Catholic Church for over forty years, sharing her love for music with her Catholic community every Saturday night and Sunday morning. In addition to her faithful service to the church community, Marie was an integral member of the DOES, providing her musical talents and community spirit not only for her local chapter, but at many national conventions.
In her typical loving way, she awaited the arrival of her children to gather with her prior to passing where she will join her husband Richard, her parents, her sister Mildred Hooper and her grandson Nathan Prinkki. Marie is survived by all of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as one brother and numerous cousins.
Funeral Mass was Wednesday at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Red Lodge. Interment was at the Red Lodge Cemetery with a luncheon following. Arrangements are in the care of Dahl Funeral Chapel. Condolences and memories may be shared with the family at www.dahlfuneralchapel.com.
