William Levi Heizer served in the Civil War as a sergeant in the 26th Regiment Ohio Volunteer Infantry, Company B. During his service, he lost his left arm.
While he was away at war, his first wife Elizabeth "Liza" died in Brown County, Ohio at the age of twenty-three, leaving a five-year old daughter. He was not buried with her.
He married Elizabeth "Eliza" Alice Abbott on September 15, 1857 in Brown County, Ohio.
Secondly, he married Rhoda Naomi Winters on November 22, 1866 in Brown County, Ohio.
He had two children by his first marriage and five children by his second marriage.
He died at the age of eighty-three years four months 13 days of amoebic dysentery.
