To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die..Ecclesiastes 3:1-2

On a cold yet sunny morning in Vaughn, MS on January 4, 1938; a bouncing baby girl was born to Jimmie Lee Yancy and Wilburt Charles Owens. They named her Annie Pearl Owens. As a young child, Annie accepted Jesus into her heart at Mt. Zion M.B. Church. Annie attended school and completed her education in her hometown of Vaughan, MS. Education was always important to her and she instilled this belief in her children.

In 1957, Annie decided that she wanted to move north for better job opportunities. With her mind being made up she moved here to Chicago with her oldest child, Linda, who preceded her in death. While

searching for her dreams. Annie held many job titles but none were as fulfilling as her employment

with St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, IL. She was a devoted and dedicated employee there until she

retired for the second time in 2007.

Annie has always had a thirst for God's word and as a result you could always find her in church on Sunday mornings. When she first relocated to Chicago, she joined Original Mt. Pleasant M.B. Church.

She served faithfully there until deciding to become a member of the Mt. Pisgah M.B. Church. She thought that this would be her lifelong church until her cousin and grand daughter convinced her to follow them. In the summer of 1981, after visiting many times, Annie gave in and finally joined Greater Mount Olivet M.B. Church under the leadership of Rev Eugene Henley. While there she served as the Pastor's nurse and President of the Nursing Board for a number of years. However, she will be most remembered for the meals she prepared in the kitchen on Sundays. We would have a hard time paying attention to the Sunday school lesson because we could smell her rolls baking and her chicken wings frying. After losing her daughter Linda, she decided that she would venture on a little further and joined Salem Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev James T. Meeks. in the fall of 2000.

Annie was a loving mother, caring and devoted grandmother and great-grandmother. She would give her all to any of her family or friends. She always gave great advice and guidance to everyone. Annie Pearl was an Angel on this side of heaven.

On Sunday, December 31, 2011 God was looking around his garden and noticed that he needed another beautiful flower and at 2:20 p.m. He whispered to her "Servant well done."

Annie Pearl answered His call answered and went to take her well-deserved rest. Waiting to greet her at Heaven's Gate were her loving daughter, Linda; son-in-law, Luther; mother, Jimmie Lee; grandmother, Betty and brother, Sam.

Annie leaves to cherish her memories: four children, Wayne (Jacqueline); Jacqueline (Ulysses); Robin (Demorris); and Vincent (Annie); eleven grandchildren, Shanneyce (Edgar), Yolanda, Derrick, LaQwanda, LaKendra, Jasmine, Christina, Brinna, Antonio, Mario and Cameron; eight great grandchildren, three sisters, Ora D., Emma (Von), and Myra Ann; four brothers: James (Minnie), Leroy (Elora), Ivey (Johnnie Ruth), and Larry; four special cousins, Charlene, Gloria, Mae Dorothy, and Mary Lucinda, a special brother, Sammy; a longtime friend, John Berry; god daughter, Rashida; three best friends, Shirley, Ella, and Isabelle; two loving and dedicated care givers: Diamonique and Barbara Jean; a special friend to the entire family, David Lee (Marion); her dog, Onyx; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other friends.
