Edgar Allen Whitsel, age 87, of Joanna, SC, died Monday, September 12, 2005, at his home.

Born in Hull, GA, son of the late James Crawford Whitsel (1893–1974) and Alice Bessie Franklin Whitsel (1896–1967); husband of Freda Summers Ellison Whitsel (1919–2014) and first married to the late Onie Cogdill Whitsel (1918–1994).

Retired from Greenwood Mills, Joanna Plant, a charter member of the Joanna Assembly of God, where he was a Deacon and Sunday School teacher, and was a Navy veteran of World War II.

Survivors also include his sons, Kenneth Neal Whitsel (1939–2013) and Joel H. Whitsel (1946–2016); stepson, Terry Ellison; brothers, James Crawford Whitsel, Jr. (1934–2012), Loy T. Whitsel (1921–2011), and Pursell Whitsel (1927–2016); sisters, Elise Whitsel Franklin and Lois Whitsel Terry; eight grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

Also predeceased by brothers, Robert Lee Whitsel (1914–1973), Neil Watson Whitsel (1932-1965); and two sisters, Helen Gertrude Whitsel Cromer (1916–2004) and Jewell H Whitsel (1920–1939).

Funeral services were held in the Joanna Assembly of God, with burial in Pinelawn Memory Gardens.
