David A. Ruxton, 78, a retired Ingersoll-Rand Company executive with more than 54 years of service, died shortly before noon today at Corning Hospital following a two-months illness.
Mr. Ruxton, well known throughout the area, retired in August 1858 and at that time was manager of the Contract Service Department at the Painted Post plant.
Born in Mecosta County, Michigan, on Aug 9, 1893, he was the son of William and Rhoda Ruxton.
He was graduated from Shelby High School in Shelby, Michigan, and following graduation from the engineering college of the University of Michigan spent six months with the General Electric Co. in Ft. Wayne, Indiana.
Mr. Ruxton joined Ingersoll-Rand on Jan 2 1917, starting at Painted Post in the shop and later working in teh Engineering Department on compressor performance. In May 1920, he was transferred to the Dallas Branch for a year and half and then returned to Painted Post. In 1923 he was again assigned to Dallas as oil field representative, carrying on this work for eight years. He returned to Painted Post in 1931 to work on gas engine development. In 1933, Mr. Ruxton was place in charge of the engineering test laboratory. In 1940 the Contract Service Department was formed, and he was appointed manager.
He was a 1916 graduate of the University of Michigan with the degree of bachelor of science in mechanical engineering.
He was a member of Montour Lodge, F&AM, at Painted Post, and of Corning Consistory. He attended the First Presbyterian Church at Painted Post.
Mr. Ruxton and Lucy Sims of Painted Post were married in August 1960.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two nieces, Mrs. Charles Foster of Blanchard, MI, and Mrs. Clarence Dush of Lakeview, MI and two nephews, Ruxton Wisner of MI and Harry Reynier of CA.
The body is at the Phillips Funeral Home in Painted Post where friends may call Friday from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9pm. Funeral Services will be held there Saturday at 11 am with the Rev. John Thomson, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Painted Post, officiating.
Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Painted Post.
