F3H-2N Demon, an all weather night fighter jet made by McDonnell Aircraft Corporation.
March 1958 off the coast of North Carolina, Chuck piloted this plane off the USS Forrestal while engaged in war games with the US Marines from Cherry Point, North Carolina.
The plane sustained an electrical failure and Chuck had to bail out over 57 degree Atlantic Ocean at 11:30 PM.
After a three day search, the Navy called off the search.
