PEORIA -- Elmore F. Arends, 89, of 717 W. Melbourne died at 9:20 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, 1994, at his home.

Born Sept. 23, 1904, in Mapleton to Fred and Mamie Kelly Arends, he married Elodie Duthoo on Feb. 16, 1929. She died Feb. 13, 1957, in Peoria. Two daughters, Loretta Russell and Jackie Bandy, and three sisters also preceded him in death.

Surviving are one daughter, Audrey Taylor of Bartonville; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a friend, Frances Pratt, with whom he made his home for many years.

He was a stationary fireman at Schenly Distillery for 31 years. He also worked at Madison Park Pro Shop.

He played semipro baseball and set several records in the Sunday Morning Baseball League. He also bowled for St. Boniface Church League. He was a member of Elks Lodge 20. He was a former member of St. John's Catholic Church.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel in Peoria. The Rev. Richard Horvath will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the chapel. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin.

Memorials may be made to Saint Francis Medical Center hospice program.
