She was born in Idaho Falls of December 17, 1923 to Ernest and Sylvia (Mace) Pickett. Helen attended Riverdale Elementary School, O.E. Bell Jr. High School, and Idaho Falls High School where she graduated. She also attended a business college in Salt Lake City (Utah).
Before her marriage to Wayne Reed in 1942, she worked at the Idaho Commoner newspaper for Arlene Hyde. While Wayne was in the Army during World War II, she was employed at Daniger Furniture.
A longtime member of Trinity United Methodist Church she was a member of United Methodist Women and a charter member of Ethel Clark Circle.
Her family, friends, oil painting needlepoint, golf, cross-country skiing and spending retirement summers in Island Park brought enjoyment to her life. She was also an avid bridge player with many of her close friends.
She leaves behind her beloved children, J. Scott (Sally) Reed of Issaquah, Washington; Laurie (Steve) Wackerli of Idaho Falls; and Connie (Jess) Miller of Sutherlin, Oregon; four grandchildren Wendi Sambrotta of Velettri. Italy; Anne Holden of Chicago, Illinois; Ryan Smith of Roseburg, Oregon; and Ginny Winterholer of Terrebone, Oregon; 10 great-children; a brother, Rulon Pickett of Idaho Falls; and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne; a son, Bradley Wayne Reed; her parents; and a sister, Marjorie Mullen.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 24 at the Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St. in Idaho Falls. The family will visit with friends 30 minutes prior to services.
The family suggests memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to The Memorial Fund, Trinity United Methodist Church 237 N. Water Ave., Idaho Falls, ID 83402; or to the Idaho Youth Ranch 255 N. Woodruff Ave., Idaho Falls, ID 83401.
