PLAINVIEW DAILY HERALD:

James Walter (J.W.) Pinkerton, 81, died Thursday night in a hospital in Sylmer, California, following a heart attack suffered five days before. He was a former resident of the Plainview area.
Services are set for 10:00 a.m. Thursday in Trinity United Methodist Church here, with Rev. Tommy Ewing, pastor, officiating. Wood-Dunning Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Graveside services will be held in Fort Worth at Mount Olive Cemetery.

Born in Carlsbad, New Mexico, he moved to Halfway in 1909 with his parents, the late Mr. William Ward and Lura Kayser Pinkerton. He attended school in Halfway, Texas, and graduated from Plainview High School. He attended West Texas State University and graduated from Texas Tech University. He taught school for a number of years at West Side and Mayfield schools in Hale County and Olton, Texas.

He was married to Jessie Smithson who also taught school in this area. They moved to Fort Worth in 1941, where he was employed with the Federal Power Commission until his retirement in 1975. Mrs. Pinkerton died in August 1979 in Fort Worth, Texas, and Mr. Pinkerton moved to California to be near his children.

He is survived by one son, James David Pinkerton of Sylmer; one daughter Mrs. Malcolm (Jane) Soule of Westwood, California, one sister, Mrs. John (Helen) Hart, of Mission, Texas, five brothers. W.A. (Bill) Pinkerton of Edmonson, Texas, Robert (Bob) Pinkerton, Hugh Owens Pinkerton, of Halfway, Texas, Allen Pinkerton of Washington D.C., Cecil Pinkerton of Durham, N.C., and three grand-children.
