He was born on September 27, 1927 in Johnsburg, WI, a son of the late Henry and Delia (Schumacher) Benzschawel.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1944-1946 serving in World War II at Pearl Harbor.
On October 9, 1948, Lester married Virginia R. "Ginny" Schroeder at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church in Sheboygan. The couple resided in Sheboygan after their marriage and since 1960, have lived in Beechwood. His wife preceded him in death on January 26, 2008.
Lester was employed at Electric Spray in Sheboygan; Manning Electric in Sheboygan; Harnishfeger Homes in Port Washington; Great Lakes Homes in Sheboygan and retired from Mayline Company in Sheboygan in 1990.
In 1961, he and Ginny co-founded the Beechwood Rest Home with Delores and Ray Rammer.
He was currently a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Plymouth and served as a Town of Scott supervisor for many years. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Beechwood Fire Department and the Triangle B American Legion Post 193 in Boltonville.
Survivors include his four children, Suzanne (Terry) Heberer of Kewaskum, Thomas (Debra) Benzschawel of Cascade, David (Debra) Benzschawel of Sheboygan, and Wendy (Steven) Murphy of Random Lake; Eleven grandchildren: Thirteen great-grandchildren; one brother: Jerry (Betty) Benzschawel of Wonder Lake, IL; Four sister-in-laws: Delores Rammer of Beechwood, Mae Jean (Ken) Messner of Sheboygan Falls, Arnita (Eugene) Drossel of Sheboygan Falls and Delores Benzschawel of Kaukauna; one brother-in-law: LeRoy Spettel of Sheboygan Falls. Lester is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Lee and Clifford Benzschawel; one sister, Rose (Peter) Heimerman; two sister-in-laws, Caryl Spettel and Regina Benzschawel.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, July 29, 2013 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Plymouth. Father Richard Cerpich will officiate. Entombment will be in the Gardens of Peace Mausoleum, Town of Sheboygan.
