Paul Dean Van Ness, 76, of Cicero, died Thursday, Sept. 21, 2006 at Riverview Hospital in Noblesville.

Born June 10, 1930 in Union County, he was the son of Paul J. and Ethel Catherine (Abraham) Van Ness, both deceased. He married Deborah Kay Wilson Feb. 14, 1971; she survives. He was previously married to Marilyn Jean Long; a Florida resident, she survives.

Mr. Van Ness had lived in Cicero since 1987. He had previously resided in Westfield, Warsaw, Richmond, Rushville, Connersville and Liberty. He was employed with Prudential Insurance. He had also owned and operated Van Ness Trucking for Perkins Furniture Transport and was national sales manager with Perkins until his retirement in 1992. He was a graduate of Liberty High School and Indiana Central College. A member of Cicero Christian Church, he previously attended Mays Christian Church, among others. While living in Rushville he was active in the Jaycees and Rotary organizations.

Survivors in addition to his wife and former wife include children, Vickie (Mrs. Jim) Boling of Indianapolis, Debra (Mrs. Ron) Houston of Glenwood, Jeannie (Mrs. Jim) Trebley of Glenwood, Thomas J. Van Ness (and wife Lynn) of Palm Bay, Fla., Jerry Van Ness of Cicero and Joanna L. Van Ness of Elwood; one sister, Betty (Mrs. Daniel) McSwain of Hamilton, Ohio; 12 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by an infant sister.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Showalter-Blackwell-Long Funeral Home in Liberty with Pastor Howard Bullard officiating. Burial will follow in College Corner Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Hamilton County Humane Society or the charity of the donor's choice.
