He was born June 30, 1915 in Cleveland, OH the son of Martin and Katie (Pacsi) Metzendorf Sr.
Joe spent his childhood in Cleveland and Southington attending Southington High School, before coming to Warren.
He was formerly employed by Denman Tire Corp. during the depression and by Copperweld Steel during WW II. He was a tool & die trouble shooter at Packard Electric for 36 years retiring in 1981.
He was a member of the Calvary Presbyterian Church where he was an usher for many years. He was a Past Noble Grand of I.O.O.F. Mahoning Lodge #29 and was a Past Noble Grand and 60 year member of Warren Rebekah Lodge #453.
Joseph knew how almost anything worked and could figure out how to fix it if it stopped working. He enjoyed traveling and liked to talk to people wherever he went. His brother owned the Metzendorf Travel Trailer Co. of West Farmington and Joe vacationed throughout the country numerous times with his family in a travel trailer. He also liked to garden but his greatest joy came from spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years Florence C. (Sager) Metzendorf. They were married Nov.10, 1938 in the Calvary Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Frank C. Black. He will be dearly missed by his daughter Mary Ellen (Fred) Pilgrim of Warren, 2 sons David (Linda) Metzendorf of Warren, Paul (Barbara) Metzendorf of Howland.
Seven grandchildren; Lynette (Jeff) Shirk of Flower Mound, TX, Nancy (Nelson) Holt of Wilmington, NC, Dr. Karen (John) Cline-Parhamovich of Albuquerque, NM, Christine (Mike) Bullard of Warren, Jim (Amy) Metzendorf of Galloway, OH, Amy Metzendorf and husband Glenn Mackin of Rochester, NY, Daniel (Teresa) Metzendorf of Medina, OH, and 8 great grandchildren; Patrick and Morgan Violette of Wilmington, NC, Zelda Shirk of Flower Mound, TX, Ana Parhamovich of Albuquerque, NM, Alexander Metzendorf of Galloway, OH and Krista, Nicole, and Michael Bullard of Warren.
He also leaves numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were 3 brothers Martin Jr., Frank and Carl.
Funeral services will be Saturday, June 28, 2008 at 12 Noon at the Roberts-Clark Funeral Chapel where friends will be received for 1 hour prior to the service. Rev. Dr. David Robert Black will officiate. Interment will be in Sager Memorial Cemetery in Bristolville.
