George T. Bechdel, Sr., 91, of 207 High St., Flemington, passed away Monday, Sept. 23 at the Veteran Affairs Medical Center in Altoona.

Born on June 8, 1922, in Blanchard, he was the son of the late Daniel F. and Mary Page Bechdel.

In 1940, George graduated from Lock Haven High School.

On Sept. 13, 1941, he was united in marriage to the former May Watson who preceded him in death on Aug. 31, 1998.

George served his county in World War II as part of the 9thInfantry Division, 47thRegiment, 1stCompany. During his time in the Army, he was honored to receive twelve award medals.

After the war, George worked for American Color Chemical. He then worked for Piper until his retirement. Throughout his years, George also welded for various local manufacturers.

He was a lifetime member of the American Legion, Lock Haven.

Surviving are two children, George T. "Tom" Bechdel, Jr. of Meadville and Mary Lee (Bob) Confer of Lock Haven; seven grandchildren; and numerous extended family members.

Along with his parents and wife, George was preceded in death by a sister, Mabel Bortot.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013 at the Donald G. Walker Funeral Home, Inc., 231 High St., Flemington. The Rev. Mark Riley will officiate. Burial will take place at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Church of Christ, Flemington.
