Named after her Aunt Mary Alice Flickinger and the eldest of 4 children, Alice was raised on a farm and was a real Tom Boy. She was baptised at the Watson Reformed Church. She graduated from Meadville Commercial College June 13, 1913 and went to work at the Spirilla Corset Co. She married Frank Charles Baker, Aug 11, 1914, and they had 4 children. She worked the garden, canned food, made jams and jellies, fed and butchered the chickens, made clothes on a peddle sewing machine, and ran the household. Alice was an active member of the Stone Church, always baking pies for church functions and working in their Circles. She didn't drive a car, so walked the mile to town and carried the groceries home.
