Fidel married Margaretha Birnbaum on August 16, 1873 in Detroit. Together they had 8 children:
1874 - Karl (known as "Charles")
1877 - Hermann (died in 1881)
1878 - Philip (died in 1911, never married)
1880 - Frank
1883 - William
1886 - Augusta
1888 - Louise (died in 1911, never married)
1897 - Emil Gerhardt
The Jehle family purchased a farm on the rural outskirts of Detroit - in Springwells Township, in the village of Woodmere. The farm property was bordered by present-day Woodmere, Elsmere and Avis Avenues. The Jehles grew vegetables, and were well-known for their choice crop of celery. Eventually, urban expansion brought the city right up to the borders of the Jehle farm (and the neighboring Engel farm). By 1906, large parts of Springwells Township, including the village of Woodmere and the Jehle farm, were annexed to the city of Detroit.
Fidel Jehle was active in local government - and served at various times on the Woodmere Village council, Springwells Township board, and the Higgins School board.
Three of the Jehle children - William, Philip and Louise - contracted Tuberculosis. William moved out to Pueblo, Colorado in early 1910, where the drier climate helped him make a full recovery. Louise and Phillip, both of whom remained in Detroit, succumbed to Tuberculosis in 1911; neither were married.
The Jehle farm was finally sold and subdivided into individual lots in approximately 1919-1920. Fidel passed away on February 25, 1925 in Detroit, MI at the age of 79.
