Mr. Samuel Alfano, Sr., 83, of San Antonio, died on Thursday, October 7, 2004. Mr. Alfano was awarded the Purple Heart for his honorable service in the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII where he served in three campaigns. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 2, D.A.V. Post No. 5, and the Christopher Columbus Italian Society. He retired from Kelly A.F.B after 33 years of Civil Service. He is survived by his wife, Rose Mary Alfano; children, Shirley Ann Alfano, Vivian Gansmann and husband Gary, Samuel Alfano, Jr. and wife Graciela; sister, Florence West; grandchildren, Gregg Gansmann, Adam Samuel Alfano, and Kevin Lorenzo Alfano. Mr. Alfano will be remembered for many things during his life; foremost among them, will be his tremendous love for his grandchildren, who also loved him. A Rosary will be recited Monday at 10:15 A.M. followed by Funeral Mass at 10:30 A.M. at St. Paul's Catholic Church. Interment will follow in San Fernando Archdiocesan Cemetery No. 2 with Military Honors. Condolences may be sent to the Alfano family at www.theangelusfuneralhome.com.
