George Washington Barr, a retired lumberman of Big Run, died last Thursday morning at 11:05 o'clock in the Maple Avenue hospital, DuBois, as a result of burns suffered on September 8th while engaged in burning grass near his home.
Ninety years of age, Mr. Barr resided in Big Run all his life and was the oldest male resident of that community, and was held in high esteem by his many friends. He was a member of the Gospel Hall Church of Punxsutawney.
The son of Robert and Susan (Miller) Barr, he was born in Jefferson County, August 13, 1857. In 1876 he was united in marriage to Lelia Coffman, who preceded him in death four years age, along with four daughters and four sons.
Surviving are one son, Clark Barr, of near Big Run, and four daughters, Mrs. Edith Carter of Johnstown, Mrs. Bessie Muth and Mrs. Rhoda Rice of Akron, Ohio and a Mrs. Lulu Crondry Of Valante, Pa.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. H.J. Gerhardt on Sunday afternoon, September 14th in the Presbyterian Church. Interment was made in the Fairview Cemetery in Big Run.
