Son of Nathaniel Holbrook and Lucy Pike, both from New York who later moved to Vermont (and Canada) where they became parents of 16 children, the 14th being John Savage Holbrook. John married Mary Ann Scribner September 4, 1850 in Cambridge, Vermont. They had three children Flora, Francis and Albert.
