(1913 - 1983)

John D. Skubal, 69, of 1615 S. 17th St., Manitowoc, died early Thursday morning, January 20, at the family residence.

Funeral services will be 9:30 a.m. Monday at Pfeffer Funeral Home and 10 a.m. at St. Andrew Catholic Church, Manitowoc. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. James J. Stamborski and burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Manitowoc.

He was born John Daniel Skubal June 25, 1913, at Manitowoc, son of the late John T. and Mary Suchomel Skubal. He was a lifelong Manitowoc Resident, attended Manitowoc schools and was graduated from Lincoln High School with the Class of 1931. He married Mary J. Rugowski Sept. 2, 1940, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Manitowoc. He had served as a Prudential Life Insurance agent from 1937 until his retirement in 1975. Mr. Skubal was a Third Degree member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of Roncalli Athletic Association, St. Andrew Athletic Association, Board of Directors of Parkview Haven and the Calvary Cemetery Association Board. He was well known in the city for his bowling and dart ball activities.

Survivors include his wife, Mary J.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas Skubal and Brenda Massengil of Platteville and Peter and Mary Kay Skubal of Manitowoc; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Mary Anne and Frank Ciavatta of Orlando, Fla., Susanne Skubal and Dr. Kerry Trask of Manitowoc, Monica and Greg Hirte of Appleton and Miss Rosemary Skubal of Fish Creek; four grandchildren, Dominic and Vincent Ciavatta and John Peter and Emily Trask, and a special cousin, Olive Suchomel of Manitowoc. He is also survived by other special relatives and friends. A son, John Michael preceded him in death in 1962. A sister and a brother-in-law, Viola and Joseph Connally also preceded him in depth.

Friends may call at Pfeffer Funeral Home 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday. A prayer service will be at 7 p.m. by Knights of Columbus, Daughters of Isabella, relatives, friends and members of St. Andrew Parish. Memorials may be made to Roncalli High School, University of Wisconsin Center Manitowoc County Foundation or Silver Lake Scholarship Funds.
