Charles was born Nov. 24, 1910, at Kokomo, Ind., to Thomas and Hattie Mae Ault Campbell.

He attended schools at West LaFayette, Ind., then began painting for Purdue University at West LaFayette and also ran a portable fast food service on the campus.

He and Edna L. Andrews were married Aug. 10, 1929, at Crawfordsville, Ind.

He operated a small grocery store for two years at LaFayette. In 1947, the family moved to Lewiston. Edna Campbell died Dec. 24, 1982.

He and Mildred Davis were married Dec. 30, 1984, at Lewiston.

He became an independent painting contractor in 1947 and painted both commercial and residential buildings until retiring in 1979.

He was active in the Orchards Kiwanis Club, serving as president, and was a member of the Good Sams Club, serving as wagon master. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and traveling.

A brother and two sisters died previously.
