Francis William Buxton, 50, of Rt. 1, Bergholz, was killed Sunday morning when the highlift he was operating upset, pinning him beneath the heavy vehicle, at a strip mine in Ross Township east of Bergholz. The Jefferson County sheriff's office said Mr. Buxton was working for the Ted Mesmer & Son Coal Co. of Bergholz. The mishap occurred before 11:15 a.m. at a strip mine near George Lake. Mr. Buxton was born August 8, 1920, at Rt. 1, Bergholz, a son of the late James and Nellie (Madison) Buxton.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Margaret Marie (Hudak) Buxton; five daughters, Christina, Loretta, Patricia, Deborah and Marcella, and five sons, James, Jeffery, Gregory, Timothy and Dale, all of the home. Also, three brothers, Chester of Paul Smith, New York and James and Wilson, both of Rt. 1, Bergholz, and five sisters, Mrs. Helen Lafferty of Salineville, Mrs. Mildred Palmer of Mechanicstown, Mrs. Martha Rose of Rt. 1, Hammondsville, Mrs. Inez Swickard of Rt. 1, Richmond, and Mrs. Mary Gersna of Rt. 1, Bergholz. Services were Wednesday in St. Joseph Church with Msgr. Stanley Zekas officiating. Burial was Bergholz Cemetery.
