The Southwestern Press (Elk City, Oklahoma) Thursday 24 Jul 1919; Page 5, Bottom of Column 7: "MRS. D. J. BARTELL - Mrs. D. J. Bartell was born April 23, 1880. Died Saturday, July 5, at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Scott, northeast of Canute. -- She was married in 1895 to D. J. Bartell, and to this union two children were born, one of whom preceded her to the better world. The other is Mrs. D. W. Davis of Billings, Okla. -- Deceased was a member of the Christian church of Foss. She had suffered with cancer of the stomach for several years, and was patient and cheerful during her illness. she leaves a husband, daughter, father, mother, four sisters, five brothers and a number of other relatives and friends to mourn her loss. -- Funeral services were conducted at the residence Sunday, July 6, by Rev. C. Bowles of this city. Interment at the Canute cemetery."
