Mary Bess "Bessie" Autry, age 84, of Pipe Creek, TX, died Sep 26, 2013. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ira and Mary Dunlap; her daughter, Mary Kathleen Autry; and her sisters, Brig. Gen. Lillian Dunlap, Lucile Dunlap, and Dorothy Mount. She is survived by her husband, Walter "Sug" Autry; her son, Jimmy Autry and wife Maggie; and her sister, Carolyn Putnam.

She was born in San Antonio, TX. Mary graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1946 and from the University of Texas at San Antonio in 1981. She worked in Civil Service for several years. She then was employed at the Methodist Hospital, when it was first built, as Assistant Personnel Director. She went on to the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio as the Assistant Personnel Director, following which she retired as the Assistant Personnel Director at the University of Texas at San Antonio. She served as Chairman of the Democratic Party of Bandera County for many years and was appointed by Gov. Ann Richards to the Nueces County River Authority Board in 1991. Mary was an active member of the Association of University Women. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Funeral service will be held at 11 pm, Mon., Sep 30, 2013 at Ebensberger-Fisher Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Coker Cemetery in San Antonio at 2 pm. To leave condolences, visit www.ebensberger-fisher.com.
