Bessie A. Wallander, 84, of 722 S. 23rd st., Manitowoc, died late Saturday evening, May 22, at Family Heritage Nursing Home, Manitowoc.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Pfeffer Funeral Home and 11 a.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church, Manitowoc. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Philip Hoffmann and burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Manitowoc.
Mrs. Wallander, nee Elizabeth Meyer, was born Oct. 17, 1897, in Iowa, daughter of the late Vincent and Mary Fox Meyer. She moved to Marshfield, Wis., with her parents as a child where she was married to Joseph Wallander Nov. 7, 1920. The couple moved to the Town of Cato where they owned and operated a farm until moving to Manitowoc in 1945. Mr. Wallander preceded her in death May 16, 1957. Mrs. Wallander was an honorary member of St. Paul Parish Women, a faithful member of the Adoration Society until her recent illness, and a 25 year member of Catholic Knights.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Lawrence and Lillian Wallander of Cato; two brothers, Walter Meyer of Marshfield, and Simon Meyer of Minnesota; two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Bucholtz, and Mrs. Rose Gass of Marshfield; two grandchildren , Paul and Deanna Wallander, and Carol and Leslie Kuklinski; five great grandchildren, Gwyn, Brett and Bryan Wallander, and Tracy and Lisa Kuklinski, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, two sisters and a grandson.
Friends may call at Pfeffer Funeral Home from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. where a prayer service will be conducted at 8 p.m. by Deacon William Klein.
