James R. Glassmoyer, 51, Shillington, died Nov. 9, 2009, at 11:30 a.m. in Temple University Hospital, Philadelphia, where he had been a patient since Saturday. He was transferred there from the Reading Hospital, where he was a patient since Wednesday. Born in Reading, he was a son of the late Warren C. and Edna Pauline (Knauer) Glassmoyer. Jim was employed as a quality manager for Tray-Pak Corp., Muhlenberg Township, last working on Tuesday. He started his career at the former Crompton & Knowles and later worked for Brush Wellman, Polymer Corp., Electro Space Fabrications in Topton, Teruma in Elkton, Md., and Surgical Specialties. He also was employed by International Fireworks, Douglassville, where he was affectionately known as "Big Daddy." He loved shooting fireworks. He also loved Penn State football and his granddaughter, Mikayla. He enjoyed science-fiction books and movies. He was currently a Shillington borough councilman and serviced on many committees, lastly the police committee. He was a 25-year member of the Greater Governor Mifflin League. Jim was a life member of Keystone Fire Co. No. 1, Shillington, holding the office of president and first assistant fire chief. His memberships include: Fire Chiefs Association of Berks County, Reading Lodge 549 F&AM, Lincoln Park Fire Company, Clover Park AA and Shillington Social Quarters, where he was very active. Surviving in addition to his wife, are two daughters; and a granddaughter. Interment will be private. Please honor Jim's memory by making contributions, instead of flowers, to: "Mikayla F.
