He was the son of William P. and Sarah (Heathcote) Gatlin and married Mary Luch Ables. His obituary follows:


Funeral services for John William Gatlin, 86, retired farmer of the McBurg community who died Monday night, were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Boonshill Cumberland Presbyterian Church.


The Rev. William Mansfield officiated, and burial was in the Boonshill Cemetery.


Mr. Gatlin died in Lincoln County Hosptial, after a long illness.


He was a native of Lincoln County, son of William and Sarah Heathcote Gatlin. He was a member of the Church of Christ.


He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Lucy Ables Gatlin; two daughters, Mrs. Lela Mae Stevenson, and Mrs. Hattie B. Miles, both of Memphis; a foster daughter, Mrs. Mamie Beddingfield, of Lincoln County; four sons, Andreson Gatlin of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, John Gatlin of Cornersville, Tennessee, Andrew Gatlin of Los Angeles, California, and Sam Gatlin of Fayetteville; two sisters, Mrs. Tennie Ables of Altus, Oklahoma, and Mrs. Ida Fite of Huntsville, Alabama; 12 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.
