Civil war service as Corporal in 17th Ohio Infantry, company D, serving Sept 10, 1861 until July 16, 1865.

"Nathaniel Lowery came from Ohio to Kansas in 1866 and lived at his farm at Barnesville until two years ago when he moved into Fulton. He was a local preacher in the earlier years of his residence in Kansas. He was one of the boys with General Sherman when Sherman made his famous march (through Georgia during Civil War) to the sea. His 87th birthday had been celebrated this week with children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, including William Lowry of Houston, Texas; Mrs. Asa Parker, formerly of Fort Scott but now of Quanah, Okla; E. E. Lowry of Dawson, Okla; Mrs. George A. Ward of Tulsa; C. C. Lowry of Tulsa; Mary V. Bishard and Miss Gladys of Fort Scott."
