The son of Henry V. & Meta Baumgardt was born in Lafayette, Indiana.
He attended Ford Grade school and was a student at Jefferson High School when he enlisted in the Army January 9, 1941.
He attended The Lutheran Church with is family.
His training was at Fort Knox, Kentucky after which he was assigned to the 19th ordnance Battalion and left for service in the Philippines September 5, 1941.
In May 1942 he was reported missing and on July 1st, 1944 the war department listed him as dead.
His family thought he served on Bataan.
