First Lieutenant Bowen was the navigator of a B-26B Invader bomber with the 90th Bomber Squadron, 3rd Bomber Wing. On December 27, 1952, he was on a night intruder mission when contact with his aircraft was lost. He was listed as Missing in Action and was presumed dead on December 28, 1953.

Awarded
Air Medal, Purple Heart, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
