Roland K. “Tip” Farlow Born September 8, 1917 in Geneva, Indiana the son of Benjamin and Grace (Snow) Farlow. Died quietly and peacefully at his home at age 88, surrounded by his loving family and with his cat Tiny nestled at his side. His early schooling was in Geneva. He met his lifelong partner, wife Aileen Summers on a blind date. They were married in Fort Wayne, Indiana on March 14th, 1941. Beloved daughter Joyce was born in 1942, while he was serving his country in WWII. In 1950 the family relocated to Long Beach California where he was Budget Administrator for the Naval Ammunition and Net Depot in Seal Beach, CA. He later took an active role in the formation of the Hughes Aircraft Federal Credit Union. He retired in 1979. Upon his retirement, Tip and Aileen moved to San Juan Island to be closer to their daughter Joyce and grandchildren. In 1986 they moved to Mount Vernon. After retiring, Tip enjoyed dabbling in oil and watercolor painting, taking great pleasure in gifting family and friends with his creations. He also enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening. Always an animal lover, lucky was the cat or dog that was chosen to be his pet. Tip was a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge and past Patron Order of the Eastern Star. He also was a member of the Shrine, Lions and Kiwanis. He loved the friendships that he formed with fellow members of these organizations and the First United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant sister and brother, Loren Vance Farlow. Survivors included his loving wife of 65 years, Aileen, daughter Joyce (Roger) Galbreath of Mount Vernon, grandson, David Lewis of Moscow ID, and granddaughter Melissa (Joe) Kinney, of Orcas Island and two nephews, Richard and Ronald Farlow. The memorial service on March 14th, 2006, brings full circle the love of Roland and Aileen, as that would have been their 65th wedding anniversary. The service will be held at 2PM on Tuesday, March 14th at the First United Methodist Church in Mount Vernon. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Skagit Valley Kidney Center, Skagit Hospice or the First United Methodist Church of Mount Vernon may be made. There are no words to thank the Staff of the Kidney Center for the outstanding care, love and support that enabled us to have our beloved husband and father with us so very much longer. We thank and love you all.
