Ida I. Dyke April 14, 1935 October 2, 2013

Ida I. Dyke, of Bellefonte, passed from this life on Oct. 2, 2013, at Centre Crest, following a courageous battle with various types of cancer(s). Born on April 14, 1935 in Bellefonte, one of six children of the late Maxwell R. and Kathryn Lillian (St. Clair) Brown. Following her first marriage, from which she divorced, she and George Edward Dyke were married at the First EUB Church in Lock Haven, on the 21st day of Dec., 1964, after which she and her daughters relocated from Millheim to the present homestead in Bellefonte, where her husband and her cherished pet Malte-chon, Molly D., survive. Ida was a 1953 graduate of Penns Valley High School where she was active in all school activities especially Cheerleading for sports events. She also enjoyed swimming with the Aqua Team at the Millheim Community Pool and was active in the Bowling League. She worked at Gettig Pharmaceuticals in Spring Mills and M I Clasters Billing Office in Bellefonte. Also performed volunteer services as treasurer for the Center Crest Auxiliary and assisted in the beauty shop for many years. She was also active in the Milesburg Museum and Historical Society. Ida was a Past Worthy Matron of Bellefonte Order of the Eastern Star and continued to be active with the Centre Hall Chapter until her health declined. She was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Bellefonte for almost 50 years, serving as Deacon, member of the Bell Choir, and chaired the Church Food Program Committee. Ida enjoyed oil painting, crafts, chair caning, sewing, cooking, playing the piano, antiquing, collecting Hummels, Grange Fair, going to the sea shore, and traveling. One of her great joys was touring Italy and Greece -- then visiting with her nieces, Kathy and Connie Brown, and their mother, Kiki, who live in Athens. Ida and George (Ed) shared a fun life together, with more joys than tears, enjoying music, dancing, dining out, historic places, friends, their children, grandchildren, and grand dogs. Ida is survived by her husband of 49 years; children, Cynthia L. Sassman (Douglas), of Bellefonte, Christina K. Mellott (Rodney), of Chambersburg, Timothy E. Dyke (Kara), of Indianapolis, Ind.; one step-child, Susan R. Collins (Patrick), of Long Island, N.Y.; grandchildren, Tyler and Kyle Sassman and Alyssa K. Dyke; and many step-grandchildren; nieces; and nephews. Along with her parents, Ida was preceded in death by her siblings: Charlotte Stamm, Doris Bortz, Betty Toner, Dorothy Breon, and Charles Brown. She was the last of her immediate family. Friends will be received from 9-10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013, with a memorial service at 10 a.m., with Rev. Douglas Elder, at Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc., 206 N. Spring St., Bellefonte, PA. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family in Centre County Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Ida's name to the First Presbyterian Church, 203 N. Spring St., Bellefonte, PA 16823.
