Howard Raymond Olson was born on April 2, 1930 in La Crosse, Wisconsin to loving parents Charles and Stella Olson. He accepted Christ as his Savior on March 25th 1961, and served The Lord faithfully for 52 years. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Joyce and their three children. Number 1 daughter Jennifer and her husband Eric Rangel, number 2 daughter Laura and her husband Drew Johnson and his number 3 daughter Mary Olson. He was blessed with 5 loving grandchildren, Peyton Johnson age 16, Simon Rangel age 15, Maxwell Rangel age 13, Mikayla Johnson age 13 and Chloe Rangel age 7. He leaves behind his sisters Rhea Prieur, Darlene Bunke and her husband Stan, Lois Martinmaki and her husband Ron, along with his sister-in-laws Priscilla Cook (Dean), Ruth Meyer (Dennis), Sylvia Rose Scruggs, Susan McDonald (John), Lydia Hall (Dennis) and Abigail Schrieber, 38 nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Viola Hicke and brother-in-law Ray Prieur.
Howard joined the Navy at age seventeen and served his country for 24 years. When he retired he went to work at Camp Pendleton Marine Base as the foreman of the Electrical Department. Upon his retirement from Camp Pendleton he obtained his contractors license and worked for real estate companies in Lake San Marcos, where he made many friends doing electrical work under his company Olson Electric. He was always willing to help people out and was often paid with cookies and coffee. Howard went home to be with The Lord on Thursday October 3rd, 2013 after a lengthy illness during which he was lovingly cared for by his wife Joyce. Howard was not always able to express what he was feeling during his illness, but when asked who she was, he often referred to her as his "loving and faithful wife".
Services for Howard will be held on October 10th at 2pm at Mission Hills Church in San Marcos, California (400 Mission Hills Court, San Marcos CA 92069). A light reception will follow in the church cafe. A Military graveside service will be held on Friday October 11th at 11:30am at Miramar National Cemetery (5795 Nobel drive, San Diego CA). There will be no reception after this service.
