Paul Edward O'Hara

Paul Edward O'Hara, born in Ivesdale, Illinois on Feb. 20, 1934, passed away after a long illness on Sept. 23.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Cuba; his brother, Bill, and his sister, Jean. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Dottye; his five children, Shannon, Shawna, Ryan, Brendan, Meghan; his four grandchildren, Conor, Hannah, Colin, Rory, and his brother, Jim.
Paul served in the United States Air Force for 20 years, providing aircraft maintenance both on American and foreign soil, and retired as a Master Sergeant. After moving to the Vacaville area, Paul taught aeronautics at Solano Community College for 30 years. Due to his extensive knowledge in his field, Paul became a certified Federal Aviation Administration aeronautics test administrator. Upon his retirement from teaching, the FAA awarded Paul the Charles Taylor Master Mechanic Award in appreciation of his 50 years of dedicated service, technical expertise, professionalism, and outstanding maintenance contributions to further the cause of aviation safety.
Paul and Dottye were avid travelers and spent a great deal of time abroad. Paul was fascinated by the different cultures and foods and loved to share his experiences with anyone who would listen. In 2007, Paul and Dottye fulfilled a lifelong dream by traveling around the world on the maiden voyage of the Queen Mary II. While he was in awe of the size and grandeur of the world's largest ship, his love of aircrafts was never overshadowed. Whenever a plane flew overhead, Paul would identify it by sound and then search the skies until he found it.
Paul looked quite dashing in his tuxedo as he and Dottye supported the arts in Vacaville for many years. While he enjoyed all music, he loved a good Sousa march and would grin from ear to ear as soon as the orchestra played one.
Paul was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was quick to share his wit, laughter, questionable jokes and kindness with everyone. His presence will be missed and his absence will be felt by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
