James Cokayne was born the 6th of 6th mo 1802 in Maryland, a son of James and Sarah Cokayne. He married Elizabeth Unthank the 5th of 3rd mo 1828 at the Whitewater Friends meetinghouse in Wayne County, IN. He and his wife lived near present-day Boston where he followed the trade of a carpenter. His death occurred the 8th of 3rd mo 1859. Later generations of the family added a letter to the last name to spell it as Cockayne.
