George was born in Diedesheim, Baden Germany the son of Johann Georg Frey and Margaretha Elisabetha (Geggus) Frey. The ancestors of this family lived in this area for many generations. He, his wife Hanna with two sons George Peter and John William landed at Castle Garden, NY on 3 Aug 1865. They went directly to western Pennsylvania, where they they lived and died.

George Michael married Johanna Katharine "Hanna" Emmert on 25 Nov 1856 in Neckarelz, Baden, Germany.
