Chester Woman Dies

Funeral Arrangements Pending for Mrs. Etta Rhodes

Mrs. Etta E. Rhodes, 64, of Chester, died in St. Joseph's Hospital in St. Charles, Mo, Wednesday following a short illness.

Mrs. Rhodes was visiting her oldest daughter in St. Louis when she became ill. She was sent to a nearby dentist . This dentist remedied Etta's dental problems by pulling all her teeth out at the same time, then put her in a cab back to her daughter's home where she was found face down in her daughter's front yard. Etta was rushed to St. Joseph's hospital where her husband Lewis had been admitted for a hernia repair. Etta had suffered a stroke from that oral dental trauma and died a short time later at St. Joseph's hospital).

She was born in Alto Pass in 1890. She was married in Murphysboro in 1913 to Louis [Lewis] H. Rhodes who survives. Mrs. Rhodes also leaves two sons, Keith and Willis, both in the military service in Japan; four daughters, Mrs. William Aldridge, Mrs. J.M. Whitaker, Mrs. Fritz Schultz and Mrs. Walter Means [Mears], all of St. Louis, one sister, Mrs. Adolph Nagel [Naegele] of Murphysboro, two brothers, Nelson Hancock of East St. Louis and Artemas Hancock of Anna and 10 grandchildren.

[Etta had a son Kenneth who preceded her in death at 3 yrs old in 1919 and will be buried next to her grave site].

Mrs. Rhodes was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church of Chester, and the Missouri-Pacific Boosters Club.

The body is at the Welge Funeral home in Chester pending funeral arrangements, delayed word from the sons in Japan.
