Daughter of Andrew Bass, she, along with four of her sisters to wit: Keziah, Piety, Jerusha and Sarah, were sent on a wagon trip 500 miles west to Perry County, Alabama to live with their cousin Uriah Bass, himself orphaned in 1822, till they found husbands.

They all found husbands in the households of neighbors of Uriah Bass. Talithat married 1st Stephen Farrar on Feb 12, 1836, son of Henry Lansford Farrar, with whom she had Elias Farrar, born 1840, who died a confederate POW at Camp Douglas, Chicago in 1863

2nd Husband was William Black, they married Feb 22, 1849 had a daughter Nancy Black born 1849. William died before the 1850 Census of Dallas Co, Alabama.

She then moved to Union County, Parish and in with her cousin Keziah Traylor (Cisire Traylor in the 1850 Union Parish Census.

There she met Rev. William Merrill, brother of James M Merrill overseer for J C Traylor, brother of James M Traylor.

Rev. Wm. Merrill of TN, recently widowed and with a daughter, wed Talitha Bass Farrar Black in Union County, AR in 1851.
Marriage is listed as Talitha Farrar and William Merrill (She discontinued use of the last name Black, perhaps because three of her children were surnamed Farrar.)

The family shows in the 1860 census in Hempstead County, AR, her son Elias is listed as Elias Farra Merrill.
