CHICO (Butte Co.(, December 11 – Mrs. Frank A. Brant and her two children, Carl and Susie, aged 2 ½ years and 4 years respectively today are suffering severely from the burns received late yesterday afternoon when their house was burned and the mother’s youngest child, Mildred Irene, ten months old, was burned to death.
The house was situated in 1022 Ivy Street. The fire which occurred while Mrs. Brant had gone to summon help to fix the stove pipe that appeared ready to fall.
Unable to Find Babe. While returning home she discovered he home in flames and rushed into the house to get her children. She rushed into the house and rescued Carl. Returning, she attempted to rescue the baby but was forced back by the flames.
Vain Attempt at Rescue. Several vain attempts were made by the neighbors to rescue the baby but the frantic mother could not direct them to the spot where she had placed it.
Frank A. Brant, the father, was employed at Vina at the time of the fire. The loss of the house and furniture is estimated at $1,000.

Nine-month-old Mildred Irene Brant was interred, per the Chico Cemetery Association Records, in the plot noted, on June 30, 1967.
