He was son of the late Fred W. Bankert.
He had been golf pro at South Hills Golf Club, Hanover, and formerly was a golf pro at the Hershey and Colonial country clubs. He qualified and played in the 1966 U.S. Open golf tournament.
He was a member of the Professional Golfers Association and Emmanuel United Church of Christ.
Surviving are his wife, Donna L. Sponseller Bankert; a son, Jonathan J. of Hanover; his mother, Josephine G. Altland Bankert of Abbottstown; a sister, Susan B. Meckley of Abbottstown; and two brothers, Thomas S. of Brodbecks and David B. of New Oxford.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in his church. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery
