Ruby Eleanor Weiss passed away October 5, 2007, in Eugene, OR.

Ruby and her twin sister Marjorie Louise were born April 18, 1917 in Wooster, Ohio, to B. Franklin and Emma Mayforth Weiss. She lived in Kent and Akron during her early years but the family moved to Troy, OH, where she graduated from high school. After her father's death the family moved back to Akron. Following her BS degree in Secretarial Studies from Miami University, Ruby supported her mother and two sisters. She worked for the National Youth Administration and taught secretarial classes at a business college at night. In 1941 she joined the Akron Public Schools as a secretary at Grace School but soon moved to the administration building in the offices of pupil and teacher personnel. Several years before her retirement she was appointed Director of Substitute Teachers, Teacher Certification, and Classified Personnel. Retiring after thirty-five years she became a Kelly Girl. After her second retirement, Ruby was an active member of the community and in 1986 Akron recognized her with a Senior Citizen's Commission outstanding volunteer service award. She was a member of Soroptimist, the Broadway Belles, and Plus Fifty at Patterson Park.

Ruby's twin was an invalid most of her life. Ruby cared for Marjorie until her death at age 54. The Methodist Church was a big part of Ruby's life. At the North Hill United Methodist Church she worked with Youth and chaired most committees at some time.

Ruby liked her car, which she used to transport others to school, appointments, but especially to church. She worked at the voting booth. She always had a garden and organized neighborhood gatherings. Her door was always open and her life was devoted to service to others. She was endlessly upbeat, outgoing, friendly, positive and caring, and everyone remembers her laugh!

In 2001 she moved to Eugene, OR, to be nearer to her family: sister, Donna (David) Hosfield, in Eugene; nephews George (Monica) Hosfield and Hank (Sydney) Hosfield and a great-nephew and great-niece, all of Portland, OR.

A private inurnment will be held in West Lawn Cemetery in Winesburg.
