Near-by race Track scene of Fatal accident

An Orange, Calif. race driver, Paul B. Cunningham, 40, was killed at the Willow Springs Race Track west of Rosamand on Saturday afternoon, Nov. 16 when his speeding sports car went off the track and over-turned.
The left front wheel of the 1962 model Cobra Sports Car dropped off the paved portion of the track according to the: report of the investigating officers of the California Highway, Patrol station in Mojave, and caused the fatal accident which resulted as Cunningham lost control of the speeding vehicle, and it flipped end-over-end six times before finally coming to rest in an upright position.
The driver, who was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, did not have a shoulder harness, and he was taken to the Tehachapi Valley Hospital by the Stickel Ambulance Service, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The accident occurred during the final race of the day at the Califarnia Sports Car Club regional championship race.
The victim's body was removed to the Stickel Mortuary in Mojave and later transferred to the Rose Hills Mortuary and Cemetery in Whittier, Calif. where services were held.
