Maxine graduated from Cape Central High School in 1947. She worked at the former Schaper's IGA in Jackson, retiring in 1990 as a bookkeeper after 27 years of service. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, the Altenthal-Joerns American Legion Auxiliary in Jackson, and was active in other civic and church organizations. Upon the death of her husband in 2005, she moved to the St. Louis area to live with her daughter. She then transferred her membership from St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson to the St. John Lutheran Church in Ellisville, MO.
