Schierman had retired as a telephone installer because of declining health.
He was born July 9, 1937, the son of John and Alvina Schierman. From Sept. 7, 1954, until May 14, 1976, Schierman was a member of the Lewiston unit of the Idaho National Guard. He retired as a master sergeant. He married the former Beverly Sutton in 1956. They were divorced.
He is survived by his mother, Alvina of Lewiston; two sons, Kent and Brent, both of Lewiston; a brother, Ralph of Kent, Wash.; three sisters, Dorothy Frazier of Cottonwood, Florence Quarles of Coeur d'Alene and Mary Lee Moore of Ephrata, Wash.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Normal Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Jim Berentson, pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, Lewiston, will officiate. Brower-Wann Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. The family suggested memorials to the American Cancer Society.
