Ella was born September 17, 1933 in Ritner, Kentucky. She settled in Lorain, Ohio in 1951. She went on to live in Wakeman, Ohio for over 20 years before moving to live with her daughter in Conesville, Ohio for the last seven years.
Ella was employed as a custodian at Oberlin College, retiring in 1998. Prior to working at Oberlin College, she worked at Ridge Tool, Allen Memorial Hospital in Oberlin, and Muellers Macaroni Co., also in Oberlin. Ella was formerly a member of Firelands Baptist Church in Florence, Ohio. She enjoyed playing cards, sewing and ATV riding.
Survivors include her sons and their wives, Earnest (Judy) Waters of Vermilion, Ohio, Kenneth (Martha) Waters of South Amherst, Ohio as well as her "adopted" son Kenny (Cheryl) Todd of Amherst, Ohio; her daughters and their husbands, Norma (Bob) of Conesville, Ohio and Wanda (Vince) of Greenwood, South Carolina; eleven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; her brother Virgil Maxwell of Muncie, Indiana; sisters, Dillie Branscum of Muncie, Indiana and Dicie Phillips of Parkers Lake, Kentucky.
Ella was preceded in death by her her husband of fifty four years, Jimmy Water in 2004; infant son Clarence Waters in 1954; her brothers, Jeff, and Bennie Maxwell; her sisters Maggie Mason, Pauline Maxwell and Artia Maxwell; as well as her parents John and Dovie Maxwell (nee: Morrow).
Friends may call Sunday, October 13, 2013, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 14, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Hempel Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Birmingham Cemetery, Birmingham, Ohio.
