YADKINVILLE -- Arthur Saxton Abell, 84, of Yadkinville, died Tuesday, November 23, 1999. His funeral service will be held Friday, November 26, 1999 at 2:00 p.m. at the Gentry Family Chapel with Bishop Gary Delozier of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints officiating. Burial will follow in the Yadkin Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Friday before the funeral service at Gentry Family Funeral Service on Highway 601 North of Yadkinville. He was born October 6, 1915 to Winthrop Saxton Abell and Flora Bell Matthews Abell both of whom preceded him in death. He was born in Norwich, Connecticut but has spent the last two decades as a resident of Yadkinville, N.C. Before moving to Yadkin County, he spent many years as a machinist, farmer, as well as the work he found most fulfilling, a foster father to four children. Surviving are his wife, Ida N. Abell; a step-son, Daniel R. Lewis; and step-daughters, Gretchen L. Holcomb and Sandra Lewis; and several step-grandchildren. Also surviving are his brother, Mr. William Abell of California; his sister, Mrs. Ruth Tubbs of New Jersey; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Though he had no biological children of his own, through the grace of God, he was given the family he so deeply desired. He will be sorely missed by friends and family alike, having left a lasting impression of a life filled with love. Although he spent his life quietly going about his business, he managed to touch the hearts of those who knew him. His love for his Lord and Saviour shone through his every word and deed and blessed the lives of all he came in contact with. We thank him for the time and love he gave so freely.
