Charles Albert Aldrich was born May (*March) 24, 1921, on the family farm near Paton. He was a son of Walter LeRoy and Iva Pauline (Ozbun) Aldrich. Charles passed away at age 77 on August 30, 1998, at Greene County Medical Center.

Charles attended country school, then graduated from Paton High School in 1938. He began farming with his brother Harry in 1947.

On Nov. 17, 1957, Charles married Betty Kardell at Marne, Iowa. They raised their family on the rural Paton family farm.

Charles was a member of the Society of Friends Church west of Paton until 1957. He was currently a member of First United Methodist Church in Jefferson. He had retired from farming.

Preceding Charles in death were his parents; one sister, Evelyn DeJoode; and his best friend, Bill Riordan.

Surviving are his wife, Betty of Jefferson; three sons, one daughter and a stepson:

Services were Thursday, Sept. 3 at First United Methodist Church in Jefferson. Rev. Lynn Wyatt, associate pastor, officiated. Helen Wilson was organist for congregational singing. Special music was recorded for Charles with orchestration by son, Les Aldrich, and guitar and vocals by daughter, Laura Aldrich.

Casket bearers were Dwight Ozbun, Lloyd May, Craig Fillman, David L. Kardell, Fred DeJoode and Bob Peacock. Interment is in Dawson Twp Cemetery where a poem was read by Glenn Rohden at the graveside committal.

Arrangements are by Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson.
