3 Former Residents Killed in Bloomington Collision.

Three members of a former Bloomfield family were killed in a 7:15 p.m. crash in which their car was struck by a large truck hauling gypsum at the intersection of Indiana 45 and the Indiana 37 bypass at Bloomington Tuesday.

Killed in the crash was David I. Correll, 44, his wife Irene, 40, and their son Robert Scott, 14, all of Bloomington. Indiana State Police reported that Mrs. Correll died enroute to the hospital of a broken neck. Her husband suffered head injuries and a crushed chest, and their son sustained a crushed larynx. Both died upon impact.

Reported in critical condition at Indianapolis Methodist Hospital is Evelyn L. Riggle, 40, of Bloomfield. Her sister, Mrs. Alice Pearson, and her mother, Mrs. Mamie Riggle, both of Bloomfield, were passengers in another auto. Mrs. Pearson is in the Bloomington Hospital and Mrs. Riggle was treated and released.

Investigators stated that the truck, driven by Dwaine E. Volk, 28, Noblesville, rolled into the intersection as the light was changing from green to red and struck three cars, one of them in which the Corrells were riding, and the second being the Riggle vehicle.

Stephen P. Fassnacht, 23, Bloomington, driver of the third auto, was injured but not seriously. Volk was treated and released.

Indiana State Police Sgt. Graves of the Bloomington post stated that the investigation of the mishap is being continued.
