Harmon B. Hardegree, Jr., Chief Warrant Officer 3 Retired, of Acworth, died Monday, October 14, 2013. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM on Friday, October 18, 2013 at the Georgia National Cemetery. A native of Vienna, GA, Mr. Hardegree had lived in Acworth for several years. He retired from the US Army as Intelligence Research Officer after more than 20 years of service. He was one of the founding members of the Green Berets and was a member of the Military Officer's Association. Following his retirement from military service, Mr. Hardegree was employed as Circulation Traffic Manager with the Atlanta Journal Constitution, retiring in 1983 after 18 years of service. He is survived by his wife, Sara F. Hardegree of Acworth; sons, Steven Scot Hardegree of Acworth, Gary M. Hardegree of Amhurst, MA, and Harmon B. Hardegree III of Powder Springs; grandchildren, Harmon B. Hardegree IV, Caitlin Marie Hardegree, and Laura Dorfman Hardegree; sister, Betty Scott of Milledgeville; several nieces and nephews also survive. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project at www.woundedwarriorproject.org. Online condolences may be expressed at www.collinsfuneralhome.org.
