"Mr. Noble I. Ayers Jr., 86, St. Joseph, Mo., died Saturday, Aug 17, 2002 at a local health facility.

Mr. Ayers was a real estate agent with the former Eder Agency and previous co-owner of Ayers Auto Supply of St. Joseph.

Born May 31, 1916, in Horton, Kan., Mr. Ayers lived most of his life in St. Joseph.

During World War II, he served as a Chaplin in the United States Army Infantry and earned the Purple Heart in the South Pacific.

He was preceded in death by his wife Ada Reed Ayers; son, Robert R. Ayers; father, Noble Ayers Sr.; mother, Pearl Collier; stepmother, Althea Reid Ayers; brother, John C. Ayers; and sister (aunt), Beulah Akers.

He was a member of St. Joseph Country Club; Charity Lodge No. 331, A. F. & A. M.; 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason; Life Member Moila Temple Shrine; Life member Legion of Honor; Life member Royal Order of Jesters, Court No. 98.

He was a graduate of Missouri Military Academy, Mexico, Mo., attended University of Nebraska, Lincoln, Neb.; former member of the board American National Bank and Park College, Parkville, Mo.; former volunteer at Humboldt Elementary School Second Grade Reading.

He is survived by two sons, David G. Ayers and wife, Gerri of Overland Park, Kan., and James A. Ayers of Godfrey, Ill.; two granddaughters, Kathryn Ayers Merrick and Kerry Ayers; and three step grandchildren, Kevin J. Vogel, Kim J. Lichon, and Kelly J. Walters; nieces and nephews.

Service: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, MeierhofferFamily Funeral Service. Interment: Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday and friends may call after 12 noon Tuesday.

The family suggests memorial gifts to the American Cancer Society."
